- Dates – 300g
- Water - 120ml
- Oats - 200g
- Wholemeal flour - 150g
- Butter
- Sunflower oil
- Molasses
- Soft dark brown sugar
- Vanilla essence
Chop the dates, and place them in a pan with the water. Heat them gently until they’ve melted and the water is absorbed. Take them off the heat and add a few drops of vanilla essence.
Melt the butter in another pan, and add the oil, sugar and molasses. Heat until melted and syrupy.
Mix the melted buttery stuff with the oats and flour until you have a rough crumble.
Press half the oat mixture into a greased baking tray, then add the dates in a layer, and top with another layer of oats.
Bake in the oven for 30 minutes until golden on top, and smelling delicious.
Try to allow to cool before eating.
